Reading

Reading is very important at this age. I love to see students get wrapped up in books. The most important thing parents can do to help their children in school is spend time reading together. The children will be required to read, and be read to, every day.

Third grade will use the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill reading series. This is divided into six themes with wonderful stories and articles that correlate with the themes.

Macmillan/Mcgraw Hill (online activities)

We will participate in the Book-It and Read to Succeed. The students will also be asked to complete a reading project at home each month for part of their reading grade. This project and weekly signed reading slips will meet their monthly Book-It goal. Students that meet their goal receive a personal pan pizza certificate from Pizza Hut. The Read to Succeed program is completed independently at home and will begin in the second quarter. Completing this program earns them a free Six Flags ticket. The students will also continue with Accelerated Reader. The students will have an individual goal to strive to meet each quarter. In addition to the Reading series we will read two novels together. I also read aloud daily during our milk break.

I will send home book orders every month. You can make your checks out to me.

Let's keep reading!!!
