Literature
In 8th grade literature, we use the Prentice-Hall Literature series which covers a variety of literature genres.
The class reads several novels during the year. A highlight for us is reading Sevek and the Holocaust: The Boy who Refused to Die by Sidney Finkel, a real life survivor of the Holocaust. A visit from Mr. Finkel is planned in the spring. Along with the vocabulary and reading comprehension skill builders, we also spend time discussing selected readings as a class as well as in small groups.
Accelerated Reader is used in the 8th grade as an incentive for pleasure reading. The students have a goal of 10 points per quarter.
