Mirta Donnelley,
Ph. D., Music Teacher
I was born in the country of Brazil. My
grandparents emigrated from Germany to Brazil after World War I. I
grew up speaking German at home and later learned Portuguese at school.
I feel quite at home in this area since it has a larger German heritage.
I attended college in Brazil. I earned a bachelor in music with
emphasis in piano performance. After completing my degree I came
to the United States to work on a graduate degree. I chose the
University of Illinois. There I earned a Masters in Music
Education and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Curriculum and
Instruction with specialization in the teaching of music. At the U
of I, I met my husband Dr. Rev. Lowell Donnelley, a native of Vandalia.
From Champaign-Urbana we moved to Stillwater, OK where we stayed for
almost 9 years. From Oklahoma we moved to Kona-Hawaii, where my
husband and I served a church as pastor and music director,
respectively. After spending 5 years in Hawaii, we returned to
Illinois in August of 2003. My husband and I have two children:
Luke, age 12 and Megan, age 11. My professional experience
includes teaching music at public and private schools as well as
teaching piano lessons to children as young as 4 years and adults who
decided to take lessons during retirement. I love music and I love
teaching music. I feel blessed to be a part of the teaching staff
at ALIS. I also am teaching the
"Say Yes to Music" program here at the
school. This program is an after school music program that is
offered to the students that attend A.L.I.S. Click the link above
